FAQs
Care & Use
Our stoneware pottery is durable, versatile, and safe to use everyday. Fired to 2345°F, also known as "cone 9", it is oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
Both my clay and glazes contain no harmful materials. For baking, bring the piece to temperature while preheating the oven. Do not place in a preheated oven.
Mugs and teapots should be rinsed with hot tap water before pouring in boiling water.
These precautions will eliminate the drastic temperature changes that sometimes cause damage to a piece of stoneware.
About Stoneware
Stoneware is a natural and abundant clay that has been in use for millennia. Primitive kilns
limited early potters to low temperature ranges. The ancient Chinese were among the first to develop high fired pottery dating back to 500 B.C.
Contemporary Clay bodies will vary in color, from beige to tan or honey to brown, all depending on the iron content and firing method. My stoneware is my own formulation, combining several clays mined throughout the Midwestern United States. Raw stoneware clay is a joy to work with - It is "Plastic", meaning
malleable. It also has minimal shrinkage and warp so it stands up well to the stressful high firing. I also create my own glazes which blend and fuse with the stoneware, creating warm and durable colors, being a unforgettable characteristic to my work.
With proper care, my stoneware pottery will provide you with years of pleasure
